Resources For New Authors
Everything in this section is something I've either had personal success with or something I've heard about that's supposed to be helpful, but I haven't tried yet. Either way, I'll let you know which it is. Some of the links may be affiliate links, but I'll everything on this page is something I believe will be helpful. This page is currently under construction as I go through my resources and find all the things I want to include.
Resources that fit into multiple categories
- Elise Kova's writing newsletter - I have found this to be so very helpful for all things related to writing. Sometimes her topic is about writing structure, sometimes it's marketing or something else writing related. But it's a free resource that's always packed with value. I also love her Patreon for additional writing insights
Useful software
- Scrivener - This has been a favorite of mine since I started writing Once upon a Shoe. I used to use if from start to finish for my books. Now, I use it for the planning, first draft, and early revision stages.
- Vellum - This one is only available for Mac computers, but it makes book formatting a breeze. I export my manuscript from Scrivener and upload it into Vellum for my late revision and editing stages. The template options were more limited when I first bought this, but they've been adding lots of new features lately.
- Atticus - I haven't tried this one personally since I purchased Vellum before I found out about it, but I heard it's equivalent and it's more friendly for non-Mac users
